#24 Joining Hands Peru - Environmental Curriculum Materials for Filomena Tomaira Pacsi

$10.00

Joining Hands Peru is a network of environmental organizations and activists working towards a cleaner and healthier environment in Peru. One of the most devastated yet hopeful communities doing this work is located in the Andes mountains in La Oroya, where efforts focus on reforestation, bioremediation, and education. This region has been deeply impacted by heavy metals contamination and is highly susceptible to the effects of climate change. The Conservation Committee of Villa el Sol has planted more than 30,000 trees on communal land on the outskirts of La Oroya. Filomena Tomaira Pacsi, originally founded as a support group for women living in the mining camps in La Oroya, is now working with children and youth in local schools to raise awareness of environmental justice, human rights, and public witness.
