#13 Mural Arts Philadelphia - One Hour's Pay for a Guild Participant
For 40 years, Mural Arts Philadelphia has united artists and communities through a collaborative process rooted in the traditions of mural-making, to create art that transforms public spaces and individual lives. It is the nation’s largest public art program, dedicated to the belief that art ignites change.
“The Guild,” part of a Restorative Justice program of Mural Arts Philadelphia, is a paid job readiness program that gives justice-impacted young people the opportunity to develop marketable job skills and reconnect with their communities. It furthers individual development by incorporating concepts of healing, community, and individual restoration. BMPC’s Music and Fine Arts Ministry recently hosted Faces of Resilience, a gallery exhibition that highlighted original artwork created by Guild participants at SCI-Phoenix, Southeastern Pennsylvania’s maximum-security prison for men. Mural Arts supports the artists at SCI Phoenix by providing supplies, mural projects, and visiting artists.
